Eat - grow - gatherHappiness is a good home-made meal, eaten with your best friend (especially if he is fox with a fondness for sweater vests). Cooking, eating, and the things that surround them: the nuts & seeds & leaves we eat, the gardens & farms where they grow, the special tools we use to pound & mash & cut & serve them, and the places & folks with whom we eat them - these are some of my favorite things to draw.

Potato Leek Gratin...
is quite delicious, if I do say so myself, even if it is a ‘sometimes food’, in the parlance of the Cookie Monster, because of all that cheesy buttery deliciousness. The recipe? A slow morning spent with your kiddos, or your sweetie, or your best friend, or quietly solo, plus the delicious things in the picture, from the farmer’s market, and the cheese shop, and your garden, sliced and chopped and grated, and baked up just so, with the sun shining through the window. Oh La La!
There is very little so nice as a little pastry - a simple butter croissant with the smallest hint of powdered sugar on top, or perhaps a pain-au-raisin, oh - or a crusty baguette fresh from the oven of the French bakery down the street. But. But! Add to it some fresh strawberries from the farmer's market and serve it all on a sunny morning...and Lo! Heaven. Heaven heaven heaven. (Technical pen, colored pencil, and a bit of digital tomfoolery, 2017.) |
A Cowboy Chef...
is always good to have around to help in the kitchen. Since he can whip up the most delicious of things in in a chuck wagon in the most rugged of conditions, just think what he can do if you give him a full kitchen. He is invaluable to Auntie Lolo the Giraffe. (For a little more of the story they're going to be part of, visit my portfolio and profile with the Society of Children's Book Authors and Illustrators.) |
